Of note is the Society for Kids at Tennis which provides free tennis lessons to underserved kids. KATS’ mission is “to improve the physical, emotional and social well-being of children and youth from families facing challenges due to chronic low income or due to cognitive or physical developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, Wheelchair disabilities).
Also of note is the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club which was founded in 1887!! It is one of the oldest lawn tennis clubs in the world (second only to Wimbledon) and is the oldest lawn tennis club in Canada. Well worth the visit! The Club has recently become a member of the Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs (CTC), which is a world-wide umbrella organization of tennis clubs over 100 years old. Canada has four such members and a national tournament is planned, likely in eastern Canada in the Fall of 2025. More information to come as it becomes available.
